Description
Amber forest leaves part to reveal the Chateau de Henry IV in Pau in this charming French poster. It is uncommon to see fall foliage in a travel poster, since most destinations advertise their sunny Summer weather or snowy Winter weather. The year-round beauty of Pau is advertised here as one of its winning attributes; come during all seasons!Pau is a mountain village in the Pyrenees, in southwest France. It's most famous landmark is on display here - the home that King Henry IV was born in. Henry IV was the first Bourbon king, and was known for granting Protestants religious freedom - something his hometown of Pau is very proud of. He ruled from 1589-1610. Pau saw a resurgence in popularity during the Industrial Revolution of the 1880s, when train travel made visiting this remote region more feasible. This poster was created for the Chemins de Fer d'Orleans et du Midi, an early railway that serviced southwestern France. It operated routes connecting Bordeaux, the Pyrenees, and the Mediterranean.Charles-Jean Hallo, more famously known as Alo (1882-1969) was a French painter, draftsman, illustrator, and photographer. Alo attended Saint-Ignace College, going on to continue his studies in the arts at the Dijon ecole des Beaux Arts in France. He is best known as the creator of tourist posters for The French National Railroad and many other private railway companies. Alo's work demonstrates a skilled use of color, depth and perspective. His characteristic signature, "ALO", appears on all of his illustrations, including this one. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all our posters.
