Item DetailsArtist: Wes Wilson Title: Scarce Original BG-43 Grateful Dead Poster Printing Date: 1966 Medium: Lithograph Size/Format: 14" x 22½" Publisher: Bill Graham Series: Bill Graham Presents
Bill Graham considered this concert to be “the best gig I ever put on in my whole life,” and after signing Otis Redding as the headliner, chose some great acts to open for him. The Grateful Dead opened on Tuesday and Country Joe & The Fish on Thursday. At the time of these shows, Redding was only 25 years old, but was often referred to as the “King of Soul.” In fact, in early 1967, rock critic Jon Landau said, “Otis Redding is rock and roll.” Sadly, Redding died in a plane crash at the age of 26, one month before his biggest hit, The Dock of the Bay, was released.
